Gang led by retd. DIG’s son held over bank robbery

Acreage available for paddy cultivation down by 30 per cent

May 14 (Island) The government will be compelled to import rice to meet a sharp shortfall due to the reduction of the acreage available for cultivation during the Yala season by the Mahaweli Authority due to drought. May 14 (DM) The final military push continued yesterday with the Army saying it is involved in a two-pronged offensive to rescue the remaining civilians in the ‘Safe Zone’ even as the LTTE continued to claim that civilians were being killed as a result of the operations.
