Independence Day amnesty for 2500 prisoner

Feb 4 (LD) President Mahinda Rajapaksa has granted an amnesty to over 2500 prisoners today (Feb. 04th) to mark the country’s 60th anniversary of Independence. The Director General of Prisons said that 355 prisoners from the Welikada Prison and 288 from the Bogambara Prison were released today. He added that the remaining number will be released from other prisons in the island.

Bus passengers faced number of hardships in Colombo
