Aug 25 (LBO) A top Sri Lankan judge has called for laws such as a freedom of information act to enable people greater access to information to create an 'informed public' that is essential for a democratic society. New fighting kills 12 rebels

Aug 25 (AP) Soldiers killed 12 Tamil separatists in fighting along the front lines dividing government territory from the rebels de facto state in northern Sri Lanka, the military said Monday. At least four rebels died in clashes Sunday in the Kilinochchi region. Thirteen soldiers were wounded in the same battles, Nanayakkara said.
