'Security Eye'; a pay mobile service from Police |

Churches fail if they can't stop violence, says Sri Lanka bishop |
Aug 14 (ENI) Churches will fail in their mission if violence goes unabated in strife-torn Sri Lanka, a Roman Catholic bishop in the country has warned. "We have to free the world of violence. If we do not succeed in doing this, we have failed," Bishop Rayappu Joseph of Mannar, in the north-west of Sri Lanka, told a visiting delegation from the World Council of Churches. Emirates concludes 'positive' talks with Colombo over SriLankan |
Aug 14 (Gulf) Emirates airline concluded a "positive" round of talks with the Sri Lankan government last week over its management contract with SriLankan Airlines, sources said. Sri Lanka cenbank holds rates steady for 6th month |
Aug 14 (Reuters) Sri Lanka's central bank held its official policy rates steady on Tuesday, at their highest levels since 2002 for a sixth month in a row after a monetary policy review, saying market rates had further stabilised. But analysts say that central bank policy rates have become meaningless because of reverse repurchase agreement window restrictions, and instead track treasury bill rates, which are sharply higher and used by banks to set lending rates.

Full capacity refinery to save on fuel imports |
Aug 14 (LNP) The Government has decided to expand the Sapugaskanda oil refinery at a cost of Rs. 80 billion. Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman Ashantha de Mel told the Daily News that the move is aimed at cutting down the additional cost spent by the Corporation on importing finished fuel. The project is scheduled to commence in January 2008. `We import 50 per cent of the domestic oil requirements as finished products (refined oil) while the rest is supplied by purchasing crude oil and refining them at Sapugaskanda.
