Sri Lanka’s wildlife smuggling problem
Sep 15 (CT) Sri Lanka is known for its lush biodiversity: its forests, rivers and wetlands home to unique creatures. Yet recently we have seen disturbing signs; our nation is fast becoming a conduit, if not a hub, for the illegal and ugly trade in wildlife. From pangolins to agamid lizards to exotic snakes, trafficking is no longer a distant threat but a growing, insidious reality. A case in point: a woman in her early forties was arrested this week at the BIA. Hidden in her checked luggage
