Construction sector suffers worst contraction in 3Q
Dec 19 (DM) The slump in construction sector activities deepened in the third quarter of 2022, declining for the fifth quarter in a row, according to GDP data for the third quarter released. The sector measured based on 2015 constant prices slumped 33.2% in the July-Sept period from the same period in 2021 as both private and public developments came to a near standstill earlier this year when the economy collapsed sending prices of construction sector materials through the roof.

Sri Lanka to sell plots in Colombo Port City for bunkering: minister
Dec 19 (Xinhua) Sri Lanka is to sell four plots of land in Colombo Port City for an investor to establish a facility for bunkering. Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that they have also called for expression of interest to start an aviation fuel storage facility. He said that providing fuel for ships and aircraft can play a big role in developing Sri Lanka's economy. Two Iranians nabbed with forged Norwegian passports

CEB employees warn of TU action if no bonus before Xmas

Strict import limitations help to stabilise domestic rubber prices: Minister

China donates school uniform material worth Rs. 5 Bn to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka to boost school internet links, AI education
Dec 19 (EN) Sri Lanka plans to boost internet facilities at state schools and add artificial intelligence to the curriculum, as part of reforms to the education system, an official said. 40% of Sri Lanka’s house holds income drop from Jun to Dec: FAO report
