Healthcare services VAT exempt

Dec 9 (CT) The Gazette notification to exclude the cost of healthcare services from Value Added Tax (VAT), with effect from 1 Nov 2016, was presented in Parliament yesterday. Dec 9 (Reuters) Shares closed at their lowest in more than a week on Friday as investors sold large-cap shares such as Ceylon Tobacco Company and John Keells Holdings amid subdued sentiment. Burqa in exam hall: 16 students refuse to remove veil, leading to tense situation

CPC makes Rs75bn in profits up to Dec 2016

Dec 9 (EN) Sri Lanka's state-run CEB has made a profit of 75 billion rupees up to December 2016, helped by lower petroleum prices, Minister Chandima Weerakkody said. Weerakkody told parliament that the utility had made a profit of 69.5 billion rupees up to September 2016, despite cutting prices.
