Sharp drop in crime rate: Police spokesman

Dec 12 (Island) Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana denied media reports of a crime wave. There had in fact been a sharp drop in grave crimes since 2004, he claimed. CEB moots railway electrification to use excess energy

Sri Lanka imports rise sharply as exports fall

Dec 12 (EN) Sri Lankan imports rose 25.6% to US$ 1,750 million in Oct 2014 from a year ago, driven by higher spending on fuel and vehicles as exports slumped, widening the trade gap, Central Bank data showed.
