Thief goes back to old pastime of stealing

Sept 9 (DM) A 43-year-old man had been arrested for allegedly stealing 1000 bicycles in Dankotuwa Town. The suspect, a resident of Kurana in Negombo, was supposed to have served a six- year prison sentence before being released two months ago. Sept 9 (SL) A Tata Nano cab belonging to the taxi company Budget Taxi, caught fire on Friday (2) at Layden Bastian Mawatha, Fort. A spokesman for the company said there were no passengers in the car at the time but the car was completely destroyed – gutted by the fire. Concern for crew onboard arrested ship at H’tota port

Sept 9 (ST) There is concern for the wellbeing of a 14-member foreign crew on board a Gibraltar-flagged vessel that was arrested on a court order following the non-payment of dues to a Chinese ship-building yard, an official of the International Transport workers Federation (ITF) said yesterday.
