Kingswood demands authorities to reinstate interdicted Principal

Apr 28 (IL) Despite the charges leveled against the Kandy Kingswood College interdicted principal Ranjith Chandrasekera, the school’s old boys, students and parents demanded authorities to immediately reinstate their dismissed principal.

In a joint media communiqué, Kingswood Union Colombo Branch, Kingswood Union, Old Kingswoodian Sports Club, Group 95, 96, 2000, Old Cadet Association, Old Scouts Association, Ruck and Maul – Old Boy’s Rugby Association, School Development Society and Pasala Surakeeme Demapiya Sangamaya also pledged their continuous support to the interdicted principal.

“We strongly and earnestly appeal to those in Authority to re-instate Mr. Chandrasekera with honour as Principal of Kingswood as he certainly does not deserve such humiliation, the release said. And added that we are of the opinion that the treatment meted was unfair and unjust, in this so-called “just society”.

“In fact during the past year he had to face eleven inquiries by Government Officials. At the last inquiry he was interdicted and humiliated to the maximum, when judgment was passed on him even before the inquiry was completed,” the release added.

During the past four years Mr. Chandrasekera maintain the high standard and traditions instilled in us by our founder and some of our great Principals. His efforts have been much appreciated by the teachers, students, parents & old boys. During Mr. Chandrasekera’s period of service of just four years we saw great strides in the development of the school. The Language Laboratory, Information Technology Unit, the Library and the Swimming Pool, as well as the expansion of the College Play Ground have been some of his notable achievements.

In the field of education we have seen a marked increase in the intake of students to Universities. Our achievements in sports are many, highlighting the fact that we have been the Winners of the League and President’s Trophies for Rugger in 2004. We have also been undefeated in Rugby during the past two years. In Cricket we were Runners up in the Lemonade Trophy Tournament in 2005. We won the Herman Loose Trophy, for Cadetting in 2004.

Mr. Chandrasekera also maintained a high standard of discipline and gave prominence to landscaping and cleanliness of the premises. We all appreciate the tremendous effort that he took to usher in a “golden era” for Kingswood College. His unselfish attitudes have proved to us that he is one who has been upright honest and efficient. Mr. Chandrasekera undoubtedly goes down in the history of Kingswood as the most dynamic Principal we ever had. At this juncture we feel very depressed about the humiliating manner in which he has been treated.
