If police have sufficient evidence against anyone, it’s their bounded duty to arrest those who are alleged to have committed wrong sans an arrest warrant or court order, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) noted yesterday.
Issuing a release over the arrest drama involving Ravi Karunanayake, the JVP, which is the Government’s main ally also pointed out that, if the arrested person believes that injustice has befallen him due to the arrest, he can then resort to legal action.
“But they cant abscond from arrest saying the police do not have a court order or arrest warrant, and thus interfere with police duty,” the party claimed.
The party noted that a person cannot make use of the Parliamentarian powers and interfere with the law. “The law should be equal to everyone,” the party added.
