UNESCO pledges support to protect Sri Lanka’s cultural heritages

Dec 8 (IL) UNESCO today pledged to support Sri Lanka to protect its cultural heritages. UNESCO has made arrangements to declare seven places in the island as world heritages. Cultural Advisor Ricardo L. Favis said that Sri Lanka should be proud of its achievements. He mentioned this at a conference to study the proposed Asia-Pacific International Museum Institute to be built in Polonnaruwa. The Asian Management Institute on cultural heritage would provide technical assistance with the full support of UNESCO. The UNESCO has also agreed to setup a training and a research centre on regional ocean archaeology in Sri Lanka. It is proposed to be built in Galle which has been named as a world heritage. The cultural centre of SAARC countries would be built in Kandy.
