Sri Lanka joins the world to stop war against Iraq

Feb 17 (InfoLanka) The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna in a letter to the United States Ambassador in Colombo, Ashley Wills yesterday stated, that the Sri Lankan nation, vehemently oppose the preparations by the President of the USA, to launch a military attack on Iraq and demand that this vile attempt, taken against the world opinion, is stopped forthwith.

"There should exist, in the world, not administrations akin to the American leaders but those accepted by a majority of the respective countries. Hence, the leader of the state or the administration suitable to a particular country should be decided by the people of that country," JVP MP Vijitha Herath of the United Organisation against the aggression of Iraq stated.

He said today there is a direct or indirect American intervention in the administration of any country. "The USA should not be allowed to dominate. People of Sri Lanka have condemned with contempt the terrorist attack on September 11th, 2001 and have expressed cooperation in whatever actions that would be taken to curb such terrorist plots. However, the attempt by the USA leadership to misinterpret the aftermath of that event to invade other countries for their egocentric interests cannot be acknowledged," he said.

The attempt by the President of the USA to alter the administrations in Iraq, Iran and North Korea via mass annihilative, destructive and ruthless wars is a complete turn over from the war against terrorism. Iraq has already allowed monitoring for chemical or mass destructive weapons in the country.

Under these conditions we demand that the war against Iraq, which is against world opinion, be stopped immediately, the statement added.
