Presidency & Sangha: Virtuous or villainous duo?

Dec 11 (CT) Prez Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be ever indebted to the Sangha, because without its tireless canvassing he would not have achieved what he did on 16th Nov. Given the volatile ethno-religious cleavages and unpredictably shifting alliances in the country, it was the sheer commitment of the Sangha to establish a political regime solely on the strength of Sinhalese voters that made GR the Prez. In a sense, GR’s victory was even more remarkable than victory of SWRD in 1956. more..

Lost and found between weaver and weave

Dec 11 (DN) The first time I heard the word weaver was when my father sang the English folk song Foggy, foggy, dew. When I was a bachelor, I liv’d all alone, I worked at the weaver’s trade; and the only, only thing that I ever did wrong, was to woo a fair young maid, he sang and sometimes whistled the tune. Navigating the minefield that is Foreign Relations

Dec 11 (DM) The detractors of the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime (2004-2015) are fond of saying that the then President had an abyssmal record when it came to international relations. Sri Lanka, especially after 2009 earned the wrath of the United States and her allies as well as International NGOs more or less aligned to Washington. more..

Editorial: Artists to the fore
