SL electricity generation up 8.1% in 2016

Apr 16 (EN) SL's power generation roe 8.1% to 14,149 GigaWatt hours in 2016, with a sharp drop in hydro generation amid a drought, underscoring the importance of coal power in the system. Hydro power generated by CEB fell 29% to 3,481GWh. Non-conventional renewable energy, made up mostly of private mini-hydro power, also fell 21% to 1,158GWh.
